The Alison Marklew Band –Midnight Rider (Ride On)

The Alison Marklew Band –Midnight Rider (Ride On)/Tumbledown –Pinnacle P8412 (1975 UK)
Reminiscent of Punchin’ Judy or Slack Alice; Midnight Rider rides along in rampant fashion. It has wonderful lyrics full of obvious double entendres, which position it perfectly into a non PC mid 70s mould. I couldn’t find any information on the band, but could there be a connection to The Kim Marklew Band? -They seem to be of the right age group...Anyhow, whoever they were - the beat thuds, the hands clap, the guitars roar... so all in all it’s a perfect Junkshop Glamster. Strap yourself onto this baby and enjoy the ride!

AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS LOT CAME FROM BIRMINGHAM, OR THE SURROUNDING AREA, I USED TO SEE THEM QUITE A LOT, THE RECORD GOT A FAIR AMOUNT OF AIRPLAY AT THE TIME, I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND OUT WHO'S IN THE BAND MYSELF.

The original line up pre the record contract was Kim Alison Marklew vocals John Marklew guitar, Stan Lowe guitar, Michael Stanley bass and Alan Johnson drums. Michael Stanley was replaced by Dave Phillips for the recording. The Kim Marklew Band is still a working band. John Marklew has recently been in the recording studio with brother Paul and Birmingham Singer/Songwriter Matt Tyler. The album Hettington's Way is due for release on Dannyboy Records early 2012.

I used to play sax occasionally with Kim And John--over 30years ago
Mick Stanley was in a pro band with me and the two brothers from the 'John McFlair Band' Dennis and Eric Mc Nulty after Cissy Stone gave them the 'heave ho' back in '76
Be great to see all these cats again.
BTW Allison was Kim's maiden name I believe before marrying John.
Mick was Kim's brother in law, hence the family connection.
I'm still playing the horns round and about but intend to move to the West Country as soon as possible, nothing left around here any more.
